“Je veux vivre” (I want to live). Stories of men and women who have risen victoriously from abusive relationships.

February 28, 2019 by admin Leave a Comment

On February 12, I was honored to be part of a beautiful group of people for the launch of a new book entitled “Je veux vivre” (I want to live). The book features 23 stories of men and women who have risen victoriously from abusive relationships.

The voices are ageless, without gender, or race, or any socioeconomic level.  They are universal and common to all of us.  Every story acknowledges the changes inflicted upon us by the abuse but also the will and power to rise above the effects of such a relationship and live better with more knowledge and understanding of ourselves and others. Prevention and education are the goals of the book.

The process starts with a denunciation. Why? Because, if we continue to be silent, the abusers gain strength. We learned of the many men who are also victims of violence, both verbal and physical. They feel so ashamed and scared to be judged, that they will never speak of their trauma.  For everyone, abusive relationships are dangerous and damaging. They are only worse when we suffer in silence.

This book was conceived by Sylvie Morin. She is the director of a women’s shelter in Canada where, with her team, she helps hundreds of victims every year and guides them to live a victorious and happy life. She was there for me and I am very thankful to have her in my life. Even if I was in another country I find refuge and support from Sylvie at la Bouie.

The speaker for this beautiful project is Nathalie Simard. I invite you to look at her Facebook page, “like” and share. Nathalie is a courageous woman who did denounce her abuser years ago. Because she is a public personality, going public about the abuse was more difficult. I truly admire and respect her. There is no one better to support our cause. It is a cause for all to know, understand and work to prevent.

Inspirations in South Florida

January 16, 2019 by admin Leave a Comment

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year. My year has started out in an interesting and meaningful way. I am lucky to be living at Idlewild in Wellington, Florida this winter doing work that I love. Life at Idlewild is full of rich experiences. The atmosphere here is special in a way that is hard to describe because it is the embodiment of the owner and my friend John. John’s energy drives creativity and inspiration in everyone here. Idlewild is not just a farm. It has a unique gallery with elegant teak treasures from sustainable wood from the South Pacific. I help in the store and I am able to use my hands and my creativity to restore many of the treasures.  I am also doing my own art which really brings me joy. Working with my hands is fulfilling and also restorative to my body and spirit. I have also made time every day to meditate and do yoga.

I also wanted to explore something new and out of my comfort zone,  so I started taking acting classes. I love it and I have met really interesting and colorful new people.

Pistou, Nicolas and Razor are thoroughly enjoying the warm weather and relaxed atmosphere. Razor’s mane is turning white in the sun. They are not totally on vacation because we are preparing for a busy Spring.  For instance, Razor will be shooting his own movie starting in March in Tennessee. And, new opportunities for clinics are coming up weekly. I will posting them on my website, Simplychantal.com in the Events Calendar and in Social Media.

I am excited to start posting and sharing my experiences.  One thing that my dad impressed upon me is that I can do anything. His message, as well as my intellectual curiosity, have always driven me to learn new things. Today, what I feel and appreciate every day is not just the freedom to explore and learn something new every day as well as meet and enjoy new people but it is a beautiful sense of purpose. I’m not just going through life to go through it. I am going through life to live it better every day and help others to do the same.

CHANTAL TURVEY AT LONG SHADOWS A HUGE SUCCESS

November 3, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Cambridge, NY. The hills at Long Shadows Farm in Cambridge, NY were alive with horses, spectators, love, and inspiration during Chantal Turvey’s exhibition and clinic which took place October 19-22. Turvey drew a large crowd for the Friday night show which was sponsored by Hughes Insurance and Whitman’s Poulin Feed. Turvey thrilled young and old alike with her trick riding and horse training. Through her relationships with her horse, Nicholas, and pony, Razor, Turvey personifies her message of overcoming personal trauma to have self confidence and healthy honest relationships with people and animals.

“I have found a new spiritual home at Long Shadows Farm and in Washington County, New York,” said Turvey. “The people who came to the show were so genuine and kind. I am thankful to Long Shadows Farm and its owners Paul and Arlene Lotters, the staff, the sponsors and attendees for making this event happen and for their worthwhile work at Long Shadows Charitable Foundation. I am looking forward to coming back in Spring 2019.”

Turvey spent the weekend putting on a horsemanship clinic where participants and their horses learned to develop a better mutual relationship and communication skills.

Long Shadows Charitable Foundation is already planning for Turvey’s return in spring, 2019.

“We look forward to welcoming Chantal in the spring for another show and clinic as well as some additional inspirational and spiritual programs for women and veterans,” added Paul Lotters, president of Long Shadows Charitable Foundation. “Her spirit and love for horses and people fit perfectly with the mission and work of Long Shadows.”

Long Shadows Charitable Foundation (LFCS) is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating horses who have been abandoned, abused, neglected or are no longer wanted or cared for by their owners. Long Shadows provides a safe, healthy, and trusting environment for horses to heal their physical and emotional health. Through gentle natural care and re-training, our horses’ lives are transformed. And, as equine partners in Equine Gestalt Coaching Method (EGCM) programs, and other healing programs for American veterans, first-responders and others, they thrive.
